Agamudayar is
a caste present across the length ‘and breadth of Tamilnadu and handful presence is found in Karanataka and
Andhra Pradesh, many of the Agamudyar had even migrated to Sri Lanka during
the Chola regime and are part of the great chola regiment, there are many
sources of epigraphic evidence available in Srilanka on their
services and feudatory ship, Many of the Agamudiyar’s had served under many
rulers of Srilanaka and epigraphic and literary evidence shows that these
warriors are not mere soldiers they are a special soldiers and are allowed to
wear a red turban to distinguish them from other soldiers,
Though many believe that
the Agamudyars originally from South Tamilnadu and had migrated to the
northern part of Tamilnadu during the late and 16th
and 17th century however there are evidence available
that Agamudyars were present in north Tamilnadu during the 13th century
itself, the following link has the evidence http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/tamil_nadu/article186077.ece
The Agamudya Mudaliar is
actually a non vellala caste and in reality of a khystria race this could be a
substantial truth because the very word Mudali itself mean a commander and the
history of Agamudyar reveals the same.
The contemporary
Agamudyar with Mudali title many of them are under illusion that they are
Vellalar this is because the very “Title Mudaliar at present days denotes a
Vellala, however the truth is such that none of the Vellalar caste recognize
Agamudyar as a Vellala this is quite evident in their sites, presenting few
vellala site and other links see what they say,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudaliar
https://mudaliarkitchen.wordpress.com/about-2/
www.saivaneri.org
all these sites invariably states that Agamudya mudaliar is a non vellala
caste,
There is a common confusion among the Agamudyar mudaliar is that they believe
there exist two Agamudyar castes in Tamilnadu in the southern and Northern
regions the former is from the Mukholathor division and the later is from
Vellala division this assumption or belief seems to be incorrect, not
only among the Agamudya mudlaiar even other castes in the Tamilnadu is inclined
towards this view for them the Agamudyar with servai title is different and
they form the Mukholathor coaltion, this confusion can be cleared out
with some simple examples
Parental Title - Name – Title
Here the parental titles = the title of their ancestors + Name +
Title = assumed or assimilated title
In Vellore Vellapadi there is a street by name "Servai Maincka Mudaliar
Street is found and in the same locality there is neighbourhood has the name
"Servai Munusamy Mudalair Nagar" in this examples the name of the two
persons bear the parental titles "Servai, even today there are few
Agamudyar Mudaliar with parental titles could be seen in parts of Vellore and
in North Arcot, there are even Agamudya Mudaliar with Vanniyar titles could be
seen in these places
The above paragraph makes it clear that there is only one Agamudyar caste
present in Tamilnadu with diverse titles, even the government of Tamilnadu
issues only one Agamudyar caste certificate
The Agamudya Mudlaiar community had produced many philanthropist, scholars,
feudatories and famous personalities
Updates on Famous
Agamudyar’s are most welcome.

Please don't use north indian community system ( Varna ). We had system based on the professions as Andhanan, Arasan, Vaanigan and Vellalan. There was no grading system.
